Sylvester of Obnora

Venerable Sylvester of Obnora, disciple of Saint Sergius of Radonezh.

Sylvester was a disciple of Saint Sergius of Radonezh who withdrew to the forests by the river Obnora in northern Russia in the fourteenth century. Disciples gathered around him and a monastery of the Resurrection was founded there.

He reposed in 1379 and his relics are venerated at his monastery.

On the New Calendar, Sylvester of Obnora is commemorated on April 25. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 8 of the civil calendar.
