Saint Makarios Notaras, Archbishop of Corinth, father of the Kollyvades and compiler of the Philokalia.
Makarios was born in Trikala of Corinthia in 1731 and was chosen Archbishop of Corinth in 1764. Forced from his see after the Orlov revolt, he devoted himself to the spiritual renewal of the Greek people, gathering the texts of the Philokalia with Saint Nikodemos of the Holy Mountain.
He spent his last years on Chios, preparing New Martyrs for their confession, and reposed in 1805. His principal feast is April 17.
