Theodore the Sanctified

Disciple of Pachomios.

St. Theodore the Sanctified was the beloved disciple of St. Pachomios the Great in fourth-century Egypt. Coming to Tabennisi as a youth, he so gave himself to obedience and prayer that Pachomios loved him as a son, and after the death of his elder he guided the great communities of monks, healing divisions and strengthening the brotherhood in the common life.

He is called the Sanctified from the holiness of his life, and the Church honors him beside his teacher as a pillar of Egyptian monasticism. He is commemorated on May 16.

On the New Calendar, Theodore the Sanctified is commemorated on May 16. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 29 of the civil calendar.
