Manaen the Prophet

Saint Manaen, prophet and teacher of the Church of Antioch, named in the Acts of the Apostles.

Manaen is named in the Acts of the Apostles among the prophets and teachers of the Church at Antioch, together with Barnabas and Saul, and is described as having been brought up with Herod the Tetrarch. It was through these prophets that Barnabas and Paul were set apart for their first missionary journey.

Tradition relates that he preached the Gospel and reposed in peace.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Manaen the Prophet is commemorated on May 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 5 of the civil calendar.
