Mary of Clopas

Saint Mary the wife of Clopas, one of the Myrrhbearing Women.

Mary of Clopas stood with the Theotokos and Mary Magdalene at the Cross of Christ, as the Gospel of John records, and was among the women who came to the tomb with spices on the morning of the Resurrection. Tradition relates that she was the wife of Clopas, brother of Joseph the Betrothed.

She is honored among the Myrrhbearers on May 23.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Mary of Clopas is commemorated on May 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 5 of the civil calendar.
