Martha, Mother of Symeon the Stylite

Venerable Martha of Antioch, mother of St. Symeon Stylites the Younger.

St. Martha was a pious woman of Antioch in the sixth century and the mother of St. Symeon Stylites the Younger of the Wonderful Mountain. After her husband's death she gave herself to prayer, fasting and works of mercy.

She reposed in peace and was buried near her son's pillar, where tradition relates that many were healed at her tomb.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Martha, Mother of Symeon the Stylite is commemorated on July 4. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 17 of the civil calendar.
