Mertios the Martyr

Holy Martyr Mertios of Mauretania.

St. Mertios was a soldier from Mauretania in North Africa who confessed Christ during the persecution of Diocletian. Refusing to sacrifice to the idols, he was beaten and thrown into prison, where he died of his wounds.

He is commemorated on January 12.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Mertios the Martyr is commemorated on January 12. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 25 of the civil calendar.
