Nearchos the Martyr

Holy Martyr Nearchos, the friend of Saint Polyeuctus, burned for Christ.

Nearchos was a soldier at Melitene in Armenia and the close friend of Polyeuctus, whom he brought to faith in Christ before Polyeuctus's own martyrdom. He later confessed the faith himself.

Tradition relates that he was burned alive in the third century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Nearchos the Martyr is commemorated on April 22. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 5 of the civil calendar.
