Theodore Sykeon

Bishop Theodore of Sykeon, wonderworker.

St. Theodore of Sykeon was born in a village of Galatia in Asia Minor in the sixth century. Given to prayer and fasting from childhood, he became a monk of extraordinary asceticism, and his holiness drew crowds seeking healing and counsel; against his will he was made a bishop, though he later returned to his beloved monastic quiet.

Famed as a wonderworker in his own lifetime, he was sought out by emperors and peasants alike, and reposed early in the seventh century. He is commemorated on April 22.
