Nicander and Marcian, Martyrs

Holy Martyrs Nicander and Marcian, soldiers beheaded for Christ at Durostorum.

Saints Nicander and Marcian were soldiers who refused to sacrifice to idols when the imperial edict was published. Tradition relates that they were beheaded together, Marcian encouraged by his wife who stood by him to the end. They suffered in the early fourth century at Durostorum on the Danube.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Nicander and Marcian, Martyrs is commemorated on June 8. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 21 of the civil calendar.
