Venerable Niketas the Stylite, wonderworker of Pereslavl-Zalessky.
Niketas was a tax collector of Pereslavl who oppressed the poor until, struck by the words of the Prophet Isaiah at church, he repented. He became a monk, wearing heavy chains and standing on a pillar in prayer.
He healed many, including the young prince Michael of Chernigov, and was killed in 1186 by robbers who thought his chains were silver.

On the New Calendar, Niketas the Stylite of Pereslavl is commemorated on May 24. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 6 of the civil calendar.
