Nine Martyrs of Perge

Holy Nine Martyrs who suffered at Perge in Pamphylia under Diocletian.

The Nine Martyrs of Perge were simple working men of Pamphylia who confessed Christ during the persecution of Diocletian. Tradition relates that they destroyed a pagan altar and were put to death after refusing to sacrifice.

Their names are preserved in the synaxaria, and they are honoured together on this day.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Nine Martyrs of Perge is commemorated on August 1. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 14 of the civil calendar.
