Parthenios III of Constantinople

Hieromartyr Parthenios III, Patriarch of Constantinople, hanged by the Ottomans.

St. Parthenios III, called Parthenakis, was Patriarch of Constantinople in the seventeenth century. Accused before the Ottoman authorities of conspiring with foreign powers and refusing to accept Islam to save his life, he was hanged in 1657.

He is honored as a hieromartyr, and his memory is kept on March 24.

On the New Calendar, Parthenios III of Constantinople is commemorated on March 24. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 6 of the civil calendar.
