Artemon of Laodicea

St. Artemon was a presbyter of Laodicea in Syria who suffered in the persecution of Diocletian. Tradition relates that he was arrested at a great age by the governor Patrikios, endured tortures with wonderful patience, and was finally beheaded.

The Church keeps his memory on March 24, together with his namesake, the Bishop of Seleucia.

April 12

Artemon served the Church of Laodicea in Syria first as reader and then as deacon and presbyter for many years. In the persecution of Diocletian he was arrested and, tradition relates, worked wonders that led many to faith.

He was beheaded at the beginning of the fourth century.

On the New Calendar, Artemon of Laodicea is commemorated on March 24. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 6 of the civil calendar.
