Zacharias the Recluse

Venerable Zacharias the Recluse, ascetic of Egypt.

St. Zacharias the Recluse was an ascetic who, according to tradition, was the son of a monk of Skete and grew up in the desert of Egypt, where he was known for his humility and for the gift of tears. The Church honors him on March 24 along with a second Zacharias, an ascetic of the Kiev Caves.

Both reposed in peace, and their memory is kept on this day.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Zacharias the Recluse is commemorated on March 24. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 6 of the civil calendar.
