• Artemon, Bishop of Seleucia

  Hierarch, Αρτέμων

  St. Artemon is honored as one of the earliest bishops of the Church, shepherd of Seleucia in Asia Minor in apostolic times. Tradition associates him with the first generation of those who received the Gospel from the Apostles and gave their lives to establishing the Church among the pagans.

• Artemon of Laodicea

  Hierarch, Αρτέμων ο Ιερομάρτυς

  St. Artemon was a presbyter of Laodicea in Syria who suffered in the persecution of Diocletian. Tradition relates that he was arrested at a great age by the governor Patrikios, endured tortures with wonderful patience, and was finally beheaded.

• Parthenios III of Constantinople

  Hierarch, Παρθένιος Γ΄

  St. Parthenios III, called Parthenakis, was Patriarch of Constantinople in the seventeenth century. Accused before the Ottoman authorities of conspiring with foreign powers and refusing to accept Islam to save his life, he was hanged in 1657.

• Zacharias the Recluse

  Venerable, Ζαχαρίας ο Όσιος

  St. Zacharias the Recluse was an ascetic who, according to tradition, was the son of a monk of Skete and grew up in the desert of Egypt, where he was known for his humility and for the gift of tears. The Church honors him on March 24 along with a second Zacharias, an ascetic of the Kiev Caves.

  St. Martin of Thebes is a venerable father whose name the Greek synaxaria record for March 24 with the note that he reposed in peace. Nothing further of his life has been preserved.

• Eight Martyrs of Caesarea

  Martyr, Οκτώ Μάρτυρες Καισαρείας

  The Greek synaxarion for March 24 commemorates eight martyrs of Caesarea in Palestine who confessed Christ during the persecutions and were put to death together. Their names have not been preserved.
