  Annunciation

  The Great Feast of the Annunciation commemorates the day the Archangel Gabriel was sent to the Virgin Mary in Nazareth to announce that she would conceive and bear the Son of God. Her humble acceptance as the handmaid of the Lord opened the way for the Incarnation, and at that moment the Word of God took flesh in her womb.

• Sennouphios the Sign-Bearer

  Venerable, Σεννούφιος

  St. Sennouphios was an ascetic of Egypt in the fourth century, famed for his miracles and called the Sign-Bearer. Tradition relates that the emperor Theodosius the Great, hearing of his holiness, asked for his prayers before a battle, and that Sennouphios sent him his worn cloak and staff, by which the emperor was victorious.

• Timon the Hermit

  St. Timon was a monk of Russia in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, a disciple of the elder Seraphim of Sarov according to tradition, who restored the hermitage of Nadeevo in the forests of Kostroma. He lived in great poverty and prayer, and reposed in 1840.

• Parthenios of Kiev

  Venerable, Παρθένιος του Κιέβου

  St. Parthenios was a hieroschemamonk of the Kiev Caves Lavra in the nineteenth century, known for his unceasing prayer, his reading of the whole Psalter daily, and his gift of spiritual counsel. He reposed in 1855, on the feast of the Annunciation.
