Philip the Martyr

Holy Martyr Philip, father of Saint Eugenia.

The holy martyr Philip was the father of St. Eugenia and governor of Egypt under the Roman emperors. Brought to faith through his daughter, tradition relates that he was made Bishop of Alexandria and was slain for Christ.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Philip the Martyr is commemorated on December 24. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 6 of the civil calendar.
