Phosterios the Hermit

Venerable Phosterios, a hermit who shone in the ascetic life.

St. Phosterios was a hermit whose name means the light-bearing one. Tradition relates that he lived on a mountain in solitude, was fed by God's providence, and drew many to repentance by his example before reposing in peace.

He is commemorated on January 5.

On the New Calendar, Phosterios the Hermit is commemorated on January 5. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 18 of the civil calendar.
