Romanos of Karpenisi

New Monk-Martyr Romanos, martyred in Constantinople in the seventeenth century.

St. Romanos was born near Karpenisi and became a monk. Tradition relates that he longed for martyrdom, went to Constantinople, and there openly confessed Christ before the authorities; he was beheaded in 1694.

He is commemorated on January 5.

On the New Calendar, Romanos of Karpenisi is commemorated on January 5. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 18 of the civil calendar.
