Raboulas of Samosata

Venerable Raboulas of Samosata, ascetic and founder of monasteries.

St. Raboulas was born in Samosata and became a monk in his youth, living in asceticism in Syria and Phoenicia. He later came to Constantinople, where the Emperor Zeno built a monastery for him.

He converted many pagans and reposed in peace at a great age in the early sixth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Raboulas of Samosata is commemorated on February 19. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 4 (a day earlier in leap years) of the civil calendar.
