Repose of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian.
On September 26 the Church commemorates the repose of St. John the Theologian, the beloved disciple of Christ, who leaned upon the breast of the Lord at the Mystical Supper and stood by His Cross, receiving the Theotokos into his care. He wrote the fourth Gospel, three epistles, and the Revelation, and shepherded the churches of Asia from Ephesus.
Alone among the apostles he was not slain, but reposed in peace at Ephesus in great old age, ceaselessly repeating his teaching: little children, love one another. His memory is kept on September 26.
