Sebastian of Poshekhonye

Venerable Sebastian of Poshekhonye, founder of the Transfiguration Monastery.

St. Sebastian founded a monastery of the Transfiguration near the river Sokhota in the Yaroslavl region, where the monks supported themselves by the labour of their hands. He was known for his humility and ascetic life.

He reposed in peace at the beginning of the sixteenth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Sebastian of Poshekhonye is commemorated on February 26. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 11 (a day earlier in leap years) of the civil calendar.
