Stephen of Triglia

Venerable Stephen the Confessor, abbot of Triglia.

St. Stephen was abbot of the monastery of Triglia in Bithynia in the ninth century. For his defense of the holy icons under the iconoclast emperor Leo the Armenian he was imprisoned and exiled, and reposed in exile after much suffering.

The Church honors him as a confessor on March 26.

On the New Calendar, Stephen of Triglia is commemorated on March 26. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 8 of the civil calendar.
