Venerable Symeon the Holy Fool for Christ.
St. Symeon the Fool for Christ was a sixth-century ascetic of Syria. After long years of prayer and struggle in the desert by the Dead Sea with his companion St. John, he was called to a stranger path: entering the city of Emesa, he feigned madness, enduring mockery and blows while secretly feeding the poor, converting sinners, and working hidden wonders.
His folly concealed great holiness, revealed only after his repose. He is honored as one of the first and greatest of the fools for Christ, and is commemorated on July 21.
