Telesphoros of Rome

Hieromartyr Telesphoros, Bishop of Rome.

St. Telesphoros was a Greek who became the seventh Bishop of Rome in the second century. Tradition attributes to him the establishment of the Lenten fast before Pascha.

He suffered martyrdom under the Emperor Hadrian.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Telesphoros of Rome is commemorated on February 22. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 7 (a day earlier in leap years) of the civil calendar.
