Venerable Thais of Egypt, the penitent who became a great ascetic.
Thais was a woman of Alexandria who lived a life of sin until the abba Paphnutios came to her disguised as a customer and spoke to her of the judgment of God. Struck with compunction, she burned her possessions in the public square.
She was enclosed in a cell in a women's monastery for three years of repentance, and tradition relates that a vision showed her forgiveness; she reposed in peace soon after.
