Tryphon of Vyatka

Venerable Tryphon, Archimandrite of Vyatka, wonderworker of the Russian north.

Tryphon was born in the mid-sixteenth century in the Mezen region and became a monk in Perm, where he preached to the pagan Ostyaks and Voguls. He later founded the Dormition monastery at Vyatka and served as its archimandrite.

He reposed in 1612 and is venerated as the enlightener and wonderworker of Vyatka.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Tryphon of Vyatka is commemorated on October 8. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 21 of the civil calendar.
