Theodora of Aegina and Theopiste

Venerable Theodora of Aegina and her daughter Theopiste, nuns in Thessaloniki.

Saint Theodora was born on the island of Aegina in the ninth century and, after the death of her husband, entered a monastery in Thessaloniki with her daughter Theopiste. Tradition relates that they lived in great obedience and humility, and that Theodora's relics later streamed fragrant myrrh.

She is one of the patron saints of Thessaloniki, where her relics are venerated to this day.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Theodora of Aegina and Theopiste is commemorated on August 3. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 16 of the civil calendar.
