  Phokas the Gardener

  Martyr, Φωκάς ο Κηπουρός

  St. Phokas the Gardener lived near Sinope on the Black Sea, cultivating a small garden by the city gate and giving freely of its produce to the poor and to travelers, whom he received with open hospitality. In a time of persecution, soldiers were sent to find and kill the Christian Phokas; unknowing, they lodged with him, and he, having prepared his own grave in the night, revealed himself in the morning and received death for Christ.

• Dalmatos, Faustos and Isaakios

  Venerable, Δαλμάτιος, Φαύστος και Ισαάκιος

  Saint Isaakios was the monk who boldly rebuked the Arian emperor Valens and later founded a monastery in Constantinople. Dalmatos, a former officer of the imperial guard, became his disciple and successor, and Dalmatos' son Faustos followed him as abbot.

• Salome the Myrrhbearer

  Holy Woman, Σαλώμη η Μυροφόρος

  Salome was the wife of Zebedee and mother of the Apostles James and John. The Gospels count her among the women who followed Christ and ministered to Him, and who went to the tomb with myrrh on the morning of the Resurrection.

• Theodora of Aegina and Theopiste

  Holy Woman, Θεοδώρα και Θεοπίστη

  Saint Theodora was born on the island of Aegina in the ninth century and, after the death of her husband, entered a monastery in Thessaloniki with her daughter Theopiste. Tradition relates that they lived in great obedience and humility, and that Theodora's relics later streamed fragrant myrrh.

• Anthony the Roman of Novgorod

  Venerable, Αντώνιος ο Ρωμαίος

  Saint Anthony was born in Rome to Orthodox parents and became a monk. Tradition relates that he was miraculously carried across the sea to Novgorod, where he founded a monastery dedicated to the Nativity of the Theotokos.

• Theoklito the Wonderworker

  Holy Woman, Θεοκλητώ

  Saint Theoklito lived in the Byzantine period as a married laywoman who devoted herself to almsgiving and prayer. Tradition relates that she gave away nearly all she had to the poor and was granted the gift of working miracles.
