Saint Theognostos the Greek, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Russia.
St. Theognostos was a Greek by birth, sent from Constantinople in 1328 to succeed St. Peter as Metropolitan of Kiev and All Russia. He fixed his residence in Moscow, defended the Church against the demands of the Mongol khans, and built up the churches of the growing city.
He reposed in 1353 and was buried beside St. Peter in the Dormition Cathedral of the Kremlin. His memory is kept on March 14.
