Saint Tryphon, Patriarch of Constantinople, who yielded his throne in humility.
Tryphon was a monk chosen Patriarch of Constantinople in the tenth century, to hold the throne until the emperor's young son Theophylact came of age. He governed the Church with piety and simplicity.
Tradition relates that he was removed from the throne through a stratagem of the emperor's officials; he returned to his monastery without complaint and reposed in peace.

On the New Calendar, Tryphon of Constantinople is commemorated on April 19. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 2 of the civil calendar.
