Vasilissa of Nicomedia

Holy Martyr Vasilissa, child martyr of Nicomedia.

St. Vasilissa was a young girl of Nicomedia, only nine years old according to tradition, who confessed Christ during the persecution of Diocletian. Brought before the governor Alexander, she remained unshaken through beatings and fire, and the governor himself is said to have been moved to repentance.

She reposed in peace soon afterward, praying at the edge of the city. Her memory is kept on September 3.
