Zechariah the Prophet

Holy Prophet Zechariah, one of the Twelve Minor Prophets.

The Prophet Zechariah, son of Berechiah, was of the tribe of Levi and prophesied in Jerusalem after the return from the Babylonian captivity, encouraging the people to rebuild the Temple. His book contains visions and prophecies of the coming Messiah, including His entry into Jerusalem on a donkey.

He reposed in peace at a great age and was buried near Jerusalem.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Zechariah the Prophet is commemorated on February 8. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 21 of the civil calendar.
