  Theodore Stratelates

  Martyr, Θεόδωρος Στρατηλάτης

  St. Theodore Stratelates, the Commander, was a general in the Roman army, admired for his bravery and his noble bearing. A Christian, he openly confessed Christ before the Emperor Licinius during the persecutions of the early fourth century, and for this he was subjected to cruel tortures and finally beheaded at Heraclea.

• Zechariah the Prophet

  Prophet, Ζαχαρίας ο Προφήτης

  The Prophet Zechariah, son of Berechiah, was of the tribe of Levi and prophesied in Jerusalem after the return from the Babylonian captivity, encouraging the people to rebuild the Temple. His book contains visions and prophecies of the coming Messiah, including His entry into Jerusalem on a donkey.

• Sava II of Serbia

  Hierarch, Σάββας Β' Σερβίας

  St. Sava II was born Predislav, son of King Stefan the First-Crowned and nephew of St. Sava of Serbia. Following his uncle's example he became a monk on Mount Athos and made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

• Martha, Mary and Lycarion

  Holy Woman, Μάρθα, Μαρία και Λυκαρίων

  The sisters Martha and Mary devoted their lives to spreading the Christian faith among women. When a pagan governor passed by their house they cried out that they were Christians, and their young brother Lycarion, a monk, joined them in their confession.

• Nikephoros and Stephen the Martyrs

  Martyr, Νικηφόρος και Στέφανος

  Sts. Nikephoros and Stephen confessed Christ before their persecutors and were beheaded. The Synaxaria record only the fact of their martyrdom.

• Macarios of Paphos

  Hierarch, Μακάριος Πάφου

  St. Macarios was Bishop of Paphos in Cyprus and is honoured among the holy hierarchs of the island. Tradition relates that he shepherded his flock with holiness and reposed in peace.
