  Nicephorus

  Martyr, Νικηφόρος

  St. Nicephorus was a Christian of Antioch in the third century, remembered for a martyrdom born of humility. He had quarreled with a priest named Sapricius, and though Nicephorus repeatedly sought forgiveness, the priest refused to be reconciled. When persecution came, Sapricius was led to execution as a confessor, yet, devoid of love, he denied Christ at the last moment.

• Marcellus, Philagrios and Pancratios

  Hierarch, Μάρκελλος, Φιλάγριος και Παγκράτιος

  Sts. Marcellus, Philagrios and Pancratios were disciples of the Apostle Peter, who consecrated them bishops and sent them to preach: Marcellus to Sicily, Philagrios to Cyprus and Pancratios to Taormina.

• Romanos of Cilicia

  Venerable, Ρωμανός ο Κίλιξ

  St. Romanos came from Rhosos in Cilicia and lived as a hermit in a cave near Antioch, wearing heavy chains beneath a hair shirt and never lighting a fire. Theodoret of Cyrrhus, who knew him, records his life.

• Peter of Damascus

  Hierarch, Πέτρος ο Δαμασκηνός

  St. Peter of Damascus was a priest and later bishop who enlightened the faithful with his preaching and by his own blameless example. He is the author of the ascetic works preserved in the Philokalia.

• Ammon and Alexander

  Martyr, Άμμων και Αλέξανδρος

  Sts. Ammon and Alexander confessed Christ and endured martyrdom. The Synaxaria record only the fact of their death for the faith.

• Pancratios of the Kiev Caves

  Venerable, Παγκράτιος ο Έγκλειστος

  St. Pancratios was a hieromonk of the Far Caves of the Kiev Caves Lavra who lived in seclusion. He healed the sick by fasting, prayer and anointing with holy oil.
