  Eusignios

  Martyr, Ευσίγνιος

  St. Eusignios was a soldier of Antioch who served long years in the Roman armies, and according to tradition had served under Constantine the Great and beheld the appearing of the sign of the Cross. In extreme old age, in the reign of Julian the Apostate, he was denounced as a Christian; brought before the emperor, he boldly rebuked his apostasy and confessed Christ, for which he was beheaded.

  Saint Nonna was the wife of Gregory of Nazianzus the Elder and the mother of Saint Gregory the Theologian, Saint Caesarius and Saint Gorgonia. Raised a Christian, she brought her husband to the faith and raised her children in piety.

• Evgenios of Aitolia

  Venerable, Ευγένιος ο Αιτωλός

  Saint Evgenios Giannoulis was born in Aitolia in the seventeenth century and became a hieromonk and scholar. He founded schools in Agrafa and elsewhere, teaching the children of enslaved Greeks the faith and Greek letters.

  Martyr, Χρήστος ο εκ Πρεβέζης

  Saint Chrestos was a young Greek from Preveza in Epirus who worked in Constantinople. Accused before the Ottoman authorities, he refused to deny Christ and was put to death in the eighteenth century.

• Euthymios Patriarch of Constantinople

  Hierarch, Ευθύμιος Κωνσταντινουπόλεως

  Saint Euthymios was a monk and spiritual father to Emperor Leo the Wise before being raised to the patriarchal throne of Constantinople in the early tenth century. He was deposed and exiled amid the disputes over the emperor's fourth marriage.
