  Tarasios

  Hierarch, Ταράσιος

  St. Tarasios was Patriarch of Constantinople at the end of the eighth century. A layman of high imperial office renowned for learning and virtue, he was raised to the patriarchal throne at a time when the Church was torn by the iconoclast heresy, and he accepted on the condition that the veneration of the holy icons be restored.

• Riginos of Skopelos

  Hierarch, Ρηγίνος Σκοπέλου

  St. Riginos was born in Livadeia in Boeotia in the fourth century and, having received both secular and Christian education, was made Bishop of Skopelos. He took part in the Council of Sardica in defence of the Orthodox faith against the Arians.

  St. Alexander was a soldier who confessed Christ during the persecution of Maximian and was led from city to city in Thrace, enduring tortures at each place.

  St. Antonios confessed Christ and was put to death by fire. The Synaxaria record only the fact of his martyrdom.

  St. Theodore took up the ascetic path of foolishness for Christ's sake, hiding his virtue under the appearance of madness and enduring mockery for the Lord. He reposed in peace.

• Markellos of Solea

  Hierarch, Μάρκελλος Σολέας

  St. Markellos was Bishop of Solea in Cyprus and is honoured among the holy hierarchs of the island. Tradition relates that he shepherded his flock in holiness and reposed in peace.
