  Eliseos the Prophet

  Prophet, Ελισσαίος

  The Holy Prophet Elisha lived in the ninth century before Christ. Called from the plough by the Prophet Elijah, he left all to follow him, and when Elijah was taken up in the fiery chariot Elisha received his mantle and a double portion of his spirit. He prophesied in Israel for many years, working great wonders: healing the waters, multiplying the widow's oil, cleansing Naaman the leper, and raising the dead.

• Methodius the Confessor, Patriarch of Constantinople

  Hierarch, Μεθόδιος ο Ομολογητής

  Saint Methodius was born in Syracuse in Sicily and became a monk and later a leading defender of the icons under the iconoclast emperors. He was imprisoned for years in a tomb-like cell and endured harsh treatment.

• Cyril of Gortyna

  Hierarch, Κύριλλος Επίσκοπος Γορτύνης

  Saint Cyril was bishop of Gortyna in Crete and, tradition relates, was already very old when he was arrested during the persecution of Diocletian. Condemned to be burned, he was preserved unharmed and was then beheaded, receiving the crown of martyrdom.

• Niphon of Athos

  Venerable, Νήφων ο Αθωνίτης

  Saint Niphon was the son of a priest from Lukovo in Epirus and became a monk on Mount Athos in the fourteenth century. He lived in the wilderness of Kapsokalyvia as a companion of Saint Maximos the Hutburner and was renowned for his strict asceticism and gifts of foresight. He reposed in 1411.

• Julitta the Venerable

  Holy Woman, Ιουλίττα

  Saint Julitta is remembered in the Greek synaxaria as a woman who lived the ascetic life and reposed in peace. The details of her life have not been preserved.
