  David of Thessaloniki

  Venerable, Δαβίδ

  St. David of Thessaloniki was an ascetic of the sixth century who lived in that city as a stranger to the world. Tradition tells that he made his dwelling in the branches of an almond tree, enduring heat and cold for years in prayer, until God revealed that his petition was heard; thereafter he lived in a cell, where the faithful sought his prayers and counsel, and he was granted the grace of wonderworking.

• John, Bishop of Gothia

  Saint John was born in Crimea and became bishop of the Goths who lived there in the eighth century. He travelled to Jerusalem and Georgia, defended the veneration of icons against the iconoclast emperors, and was imprisoned by the Khazars, from whom he escaped. He reposed in Amastris around 790.

• David the New Monk-Martyr

  Martyr, Δαβίδ ο Νέος Οσιομάρτυς

  Saint David was born in Aivali in Asia Minor and became a monk at the Skete of Saint Anne on Mount Athos. Sent to Thessaloniki on monastery business, tradition relates that he was moved to confess Christ before the Turkish authorities and was hanged there in 1813.

• Dionysius of Suzdal

  Hierarch, Διονύσιος Αρχιεπίσκοπος Σουζδαλίας

  Saint Dionysius was a monk of the Kiev Caves who founded the Ascension Caves monastery at Nizhny Novgorod and became bishop of Suzdal. He was a friend of Saint Sergius of Radonezh and Saint Alexis of Moscow and was named metropolitan of Russia, but was detained in Kiev, where he reposed in 1385.

  Saint Anthion is remembered in the Greek synaxaria as a monastic who lived the ascetic life and reposed in peace. The details of his life have not been preserved.
