  Febronia

  Holy Woman, Φεβρωνία

  St. Febronia was a young nun of Mesopotamia who suffered for Christ at the beginning of the fourth century, in the persecution of Diocletian. Raised in a monastery from childhood, she was famed for her beauty, her wisdom, and her love of the Scriptures. When the persecutors seized her, she refused the offer of marriage and freedom in exchange for denying Christ, and endured a cruel martyrdom with unbroken faith.

• Dionysius of Athos, Founder of Dionysiou

  Venerable, Διονύσιος ο Αθωνίτης

  Saint Dionysius was born near Kastoria in the fourteenth century and went to Mount Athos, where his brother Theodosius was a monk. Guided, tradition relates, by a light he saw on a rock above the sea, he founded there the monastery of the Holy Forerunner, later known by his name, with the support of the emperor Alexios III of Trebizond.

• Procopius of Smyrna, Monk-Martyr

  Martyr, Προκόπιος ο εν Σμύρνη

  Saint Procopius was born in Varna in Bulgaria and became a monk of the Iviron monastery on Mount Athos. Tradition relates that he fell into apostasy in Smyrna, but quickly repented and returned to confess Christ before the judge, and was beheaded there in 1810.

• George of Attaleia, New Martyr

  Martyr, Γεώργιος ο εν Κρήνη

  Saint George was born in Attaleia in Asia Minor. Tradition relates that he was raised as a Muslim after being taken from his Christian parents, but returned to the faith of Christ. Denounced at Krini opposite Chios, he confessed Christ openly and was put to death in 1823.

• Orentius and his Six Brothers, Martyrs

  Martyr, Ορέντιος και οι αδελφοί αυτού

  These seven brothers were soldiers in the imperial army in Thrace. When Orentius refused to sacrifice after a victory in single combat, all seven were stripped of their rank and sent in chains along the Black Sea coast toward the Caucasus, where each died in a different place of exile or by violence, in the early fourth century.

• Leonis, Libye and Eutropia, Monastic Martyrs

  Holy Woman, Λεωνίς, Λιβύη και Ευτροπία

  Saints Leonis, Libye and her young sister Eutropia were Christian women of Palmyra in Syria who confessed Christ during the persecutions. Tradition relates that Leonis was burned, Libye beheaded, and the twelve-year-old Eutropia shot with arrows.

• Peter and Fevronia of Murom

  Saint, Πέτρος και Φεβρωνία του Μουρόμ

  Saint Peter, prince of Murom, was healed of a grievous illness by the peasant maiden Fevronia and married her, and the two ruled Murom with justice and mercy in the thirteenth century. Late in life both received the monastic habit, and tradition relates that they died on the same day and were buried together.
