• Helladios

  The Holy Hieromartyr Helladios was a bishop of the East in the early centuries of the Church who suffered for Christ in a time of persecution. The synaxaria preserve little of his life beyond his faithful service at the altar and his steadfast confession, for which he endured torments and gave his life for the Lord.

  Eutyches was a bishop of Melitene in Armenia in the apostolic age, remembered as a fellow-laborer of the holy Apostles. He suffered persecution for the Gospel and was put to death.

• Heliconis of Thessalonica

  Holy Woman, Ελικωνίδα

  Heliconis was a Christian woman of Thessalonica who went to Corinth during the persecution of Gordian and Philip and openly rebuked the worship of idols. After cruel tortures, tradition relates, she entered the temple and cast down the statues of the gods.

  Andrew was a Scythian slave in Constantinople in the tenth century who, called by a vision, took up the life of folly for Christ, living in the streets in rags and enduring mockery while secretly praying through the night. He was granted many visions and the gift of insight.

• Niketas of Chalcedon

  Hierarch, Νικήτας Χαλκηδόνος

  Niketas was chosen bishop of Chalcedon in the eighth century and was known for his charity to the poor and the stranger. In the Iconoclast persecution he defended the veneration of icons and endured exile and hardship.

  Kreskes, Paul and Dioskorides were Christians of Rome who were burned alive for their confession of Christ, tradition placing their martyrdom in the third century.

• Mitros of Tripolis

  Martyr, Μήτρος ο Νεομάρτυς

  Mitros, a form of the name Demetrios, was a young Christian of the Peloponnese who, tradition relates, was falsely accused and pressured to accept Islam by the Turks of Tripolis. Refusing, he was put to death for Christ in 1794.
