  St. Moses the Ethiopian was in his youth a slave and then the leader of a band of robbers in Egypt, feared for his strength and violence. Coming to himself, he repented and entered the monastic life in the desert of Sketis, where through long struggle with his former passions he attained deep humility and gentleness, and was found worthy of the priesthood.

  The holy Prophet Moses, of the tribe of Levi, was saved from the Nile as an infant and raised in the house of Pharaoh.
