  Babylas of Antioch

  Hierarch, Βαβύλας

  St. Babylas was Bishop of Antioch in the third century, remembered for his boldness in barring an emperor stained with blood from entering the church until he should repent. During the persecution under Decius he was imprisoned for his confession of Christ and died in chains around the year 253.

• Moses the Prophet and God-seer

  Prophet, Μωυσής

  The holy Prophet Moses, of the tribe of Levi, was saved from the Nile as an infant and raised in the house of Pharaoh. Called by God from the burning bush, he led the people of Israel out of Egypt, through the Red Sea, and for forty years in the wilderness, and received the Law on Mount Sinai, where he spoke with God face to face.

• Hermione the Daughter of Philip

  Holy Woman, Ερμιόνη

  St. Hermione was one of the four daughters of the Apostle Philip the Deacon, who are named in the Acts of the Apostles as virgins who prophesied. Tradition relates that she settled in Ephesus, practiced the art of healing, and cared freely for the sick and the poor.

• Anthimos the New of Kefalonia

  Venerable, Άνθιμος ο Νέος

  St. Anthimos the New was born on Kefalonia in the eighteenth century and lost his sight in youth. He embraced the monastic life and, though blind, traveled through the islands of the Aegean and the Ionian Sea preaching, founding monasteries and strengthening the faithful under Ottoman and Venetian rule.

• Babylas of Nicomedia and the 84 Children

  Martyr, Βάβυλας ο Διδάσκαλος

  St. Babylas was a Christian teacher in Nicomedia who instructed children in letters and in the faith. Denounced during the persecution of Maximian, he was brought before the governor with eighty-four of his young pupils, who refused with him to deny Christ.

  Tradition relates that Theotimos and Theodoulos were executioners in the service of a pagan governor who, witnessing the constancy of the Christians they were ordered to torture, confessed Christ themselves.

  Martyr, Κεντυρίων, Θεόδωρος, Αμμιανός, Ιουλιανός, Ωκεανός

  The holy martyrs Kentyrion, Theodore, Ammianos, Julian and Oceanos were Christians of a village near Nicomedia who were seized during the persecution of Maximian. They confessed Christ before the governor and endured cruel torments before being burned to death.
