Abdias the Prophet

Prophet Obadiah.

The holy prophet Abdias, called Obadiah in the Hebrew Scriptures, is one of the twelve minor prophets, and his book is the shortest in the Old Testament. In it he pronounces the judgment of God upon Edom for its pride and its violence against Israel, and he foretells the day of the Lord and the deliverance that shall be upon Mount Zion.

The Church honors him among the prophets who prepared the way for the coming of Christ. He is commemorated on November 19.

On the New Calendar, Abdias the Prophet is commemorated on November 19. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 2 of the civil calendar.
