Saint Philaret Drozdov, Metropolitan of Moscow, theologian and author of the Catechism.
Saint Philaret Drozdov was Metropolitan of Moscow for nearly half a century in the nineteenth century. A theologian and preacher of great learning, he composed the Catechism used throughout the Russian Church and oversaw the translation of the Bible into Russian.
He reposed in 1867 and was glorified in 1994.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Philaret of Moscow is commemorated on November 19. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 2 of the civil calendar.
