Akakios of Kavsokalyvia

Venerable Akakios the Younger of Kavsokalyvia on Mount Athos, guide of new martyrs.

Akakios was born in the Agrapha mountains in the seventeenth century and became a monk on Mount Athos, settling finally in the cave of Saint Maximus at Kavsokalyvia. There he lived in extreme asceticism and was granted gifts of prayer and foresight.

He prepared and blessed several monks who went out to martyrdom for Christ under the Ottomans. He reposed at a great age in 1730.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Akakios of Kavsokalyvia is commemorated on April 12. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 25 of the civil calendar.
