Anthusa of Constantinople

Venerable Anthusa, daughter of the iconoclast emperor Constantine Copronymus, who became a nun.

Anthusa was the daughter of the iconoclast emperor Constantine V and twin sister of the future emperor Leo. Unlike her father she loved the holy icons and refused every proposal of marriage, giving her wealth to the poor.

After her father's death she became a nun in a convent she founded in Constantinople, and reposed in peace in the early ninth century.

On the New Calendar, Anthusa of Constantinople is commemorated on April 12. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 25 of the civil calendar.
