Basil of Parion

Bishop Basil of Parion.

St. Basil was Bishop of Parion in Asia Minor during the age of iconoclasm. Refusing to consent to the condemnation of the holy icons, he was driven from his see and spent long years in hardship and wandering, enduring persecution rather than betray the fullness of the faith.

The Church numbers him among the confessors whose sufferings preserved the veneration of the icons for the whole Orthodox world. He is commemorated on April 12.
