Alexandra the Empress

Holy Martyr Alexandra the Empress, who confessed Christ at the martyrdom of Saint George, with her servants Apollo, Isaacius and Codratus.

Alexandra was, according to tradition, the wife of the emperor Diocletian. Witnessing the tortures of the Great Martyr George and the wonders wrought through him, she openly declared herself a Christian before her husband.

Condemned to death with George, she died on the way to execution, and her servants Apollo, Isaacius and Codratus were martyred for their faith soon after.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Alexandra the Empress is commemorated on April 21. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 4 of the civil calendar.
